Philosophy
Denim carries history. It is used for work, travel, to create and to live in. Each fade, repair, stain and crease marks a moment in time. Denim is our interest, but we are equally interested in garments that share the same qualities: utility, texture, wear and character. VARGIS is a collection of pieces that feel lived-in rather than manufactured.
VARGIS is a repository of preferences, observations and explorations. By remaining faceless, we leave room for interpretation. The garments are the subject, not the person wearing them. We want people to see themselves in the clothing rather than someone else.
The scarecrow represents utility above all else. Built for a purpose, it stands through changing seasons and remains long after it has weathered and aged. Its clothing fades, tears and softens with time, much like denim. The scarecrow reflects endurance, work, wear and the quiet beauty of things that continue to serve their purpose.
Vintage garments carry evidence of a life already lived. They remind us that clothing can improve with age and that value is not always found in what is new. We are interested in preserving and continuing those stories.
A store sells products. An archive preserves objects with meaning. Every piece in the archive has a history, a purpose and a reason for being here. VARGIS is not simply a collection of garments; it is a collection of objects that have earned their character through use.
